Notohara Itsuzan (Notohara Makoto) was born on November 21, 1912 in Fukuoka Prefecture. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Fukuda Kanzan. He started teaching in 1959. He was the president of the Itsubi-kai, and a member of the Fukuoka Prefecture branch of the Tozan-ryū gaku-kai.
