Yamase Shōin I

初世山勢松韻

The third Iemoto of the Yamase school, whose real name was Yoshida Senkichi. He studied under the 2nd generation Yamasei Kensaku and took the name Yamase Shōin after working as Yamasei Kōto. In 1880, he was appointed to the Music Department of the Ministry of Education, and in 1890, he composed "Miyako no Haru" for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Music School. 1891, he became a professor at the Tokyo Music School (now Tokyo University of the Arts). His works include "Oborozuki," "Hana no Kumo," and "Shiki no Tomo. Developed the multi-stringed koto. His pupils include Hagioka Shōin I and Imai Keishō.
