Kotani Reihō (Kotani Yoshio) was born September 7, 1904 in Hokkaido. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Aoki Reibo I and Iigura Hōdō. He started teaching in 1962. During his more than five decades in the shakuhachi world he was a member of the Reibo-kai and an advisor to the Sapporo Sankyoku Kyō-kai.
