Higashijima Masaki was born August 23rd, 1916 in Kumamoto Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Henshun Edō, Yamazaki Chikuin, Torii Komudō, and Takemori Goka and was affiliated with the Wafū-kai, the Kumamoto Kinko-kai, the Satsuki-kai, the Wakana-kai, and the Yatsushiro Chikuyo-kai.
