Born June 6, 1919 in Miyagi Prefecture, Yokoyama Kōdō (Yokoyama Hiroshi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kaneyasu Tōdō, an auditor of the Odawara Sankyokukai. He received his Shihan and began teaching in 1960. He was a member of Nihon Chiku-dō Gakkan. He spent more than 30 years as a performer and teacher.
