Kitayama Shidō

Studied shakuhachi under Yusai Kimura at Keio University. From the 1990s to the 2010s, he was a leading performer of the Araki school. His artistic style is very similar to that of Kimura Yusai, combining dignity and power. He excels in Kinko-ryu and sankyoku ensemble playing, and has been broadcast on NHK and recorded on CD. He served for many years as president of the Chikusenkai, which was founded by Yusai Kimura, and as executive director of the Kinko-ryu Association. He was also a member of Wakaba-kai, Japan's premier sankyoku ensemble group.
