Nakahashi Muzan (Nakahashi Tanehiro) was born on February 1, 1907 in Omuta City. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Takei Banzan and started teaching in 1935. In a career that spanned almost 50 years, he was the head of the Miyazaki Prefecture branch of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai, the head of the Nobeoka Sankyoku-kai, and a member of the Yorin-kai. He received the Miyazaki Prefecture Music Culture Award and the Nobeoka City Culture Award.
