Hayashi Shūen (Hayashi Nobufusa) was born July 10, 1928 in Gifu Prefecture. He studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Hayashi Shūdō. He started teaching in 1948. He was Ueda-ryū Shakuhachi-do Daishihan and Chief of the Chikuryū-kai Yokosuka branch.
