Сякухати

Yasui Kazan was one of the earliest members of the Tozan-ryū, and had a wealth of knowledge and experience. He trained many students, and made a great contribution to the world of shakuhachi.
After graduating from the Commerce Department of Kansai Commercial and Industrial Institute in 1904, he entered the head office of Sumitomo Warehouse in 1913. In December of 1916, he joined the Sugimura Warehouse and spent most of his career there.
In 1910 he joined the Tozan-ryū, studying under Kitahara Kōzan I.
In November 1914, he became a Jun-Shihan (associate instructor) with license No. 205, and changed his name from Noboru to Kazan.
He was promoted to Shihan in February 1922, and although he was appointed as a member of the examining committee for many years, his duties forced him to take a temporary hiatus. He eventually returned to the world of music, serving as the executive director of the Osaka Executive Committee.
