Born November 21, 1918 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Yoshio Jyōchiku (Yoshio Taro) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Araki Kodo IV and Jin Nyodō. He received his Shihan (masters/ teaching license) in 1965. Belonged to Yayoi-kai and Nyodō-kai. His shakuhachi career spanned more than 40 years.
