Born in Kyoto 1882. Blind from the age of three. Began koto studies with Inoue Fukuei at 6. Later studied with Matsuzaka Harue, receiving teacher's credentials in 1910 along with performance name Fuei. Studied non-traditional instruments as well, including violin, and was inspired to compose music.
