Shakuhachi

Born in Okayama Prefecture, Retsuzan Tanabe went to Tokyo where, one day by accident, he heard Hozan Yamamoto performing on television. His life was changed. He recommenced his studies of shakuhachi became a disciple of Yamamoto, entered the NHK Ikusei kai and became a Master of Tozan style. Since 1981, he has recorded, performed and traveled widely as a professional shakuhachi player. He performed in the U.S. with the Miyagi school koto group in 1988 and in Spain at the Madrid National Theater. His most recent CD is released on the Bamboo CD label.
