Brian Purdy has been playing shakuhachi since 2006. He began lessons with Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin in early 2007 and by 2008 he had begun full time lessons with Michael Chikuzen Gould. Since that time he has completed his Shoden and Chuden levels with Michael Chikuzen Gould.
In 2009 Brian traveled to Japan with Michael Chikuzen Gould to gain a better understanding of the culture the shakuhachi evolved from as well as to study with Taniguchi Yoshinobu and perform at a Deshi concert. Brian is also the coordinator for the Florida Shakuhachi camps where Michael Chikuzen Gould teaches and he runs a shakuhachi blog at http://www.honshirabe.com.
He continues to study weekly with Michael Chikuzen Gould and is currently working towards his Jun Shihan.
