Soga Kōyū (Soga Yōzō) was born January 15, 1898 in Gifu Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Endō Kōshū and Takeuchi Shikō. He belonged to the Gokōkai. He was a shakuhachi teacher and performer for more than 40 years.
