Born 2/8/1933 in Tottori Prefecture, Watanabe Chōzan (birth name Hajime) studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Watanabe Hōzan. He received his Shihan (teaching license) in 1958. He was a member of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gakku-kai Tottori Prefecture Branch.
