Jizhang Yi recently earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from the University of Toronto. His dissertation is a philosophical investigation of Kierkegaard's "truth is subjectivity" in relation to Chan/Zen Buddhist thought represented by Huineng. He started learning to play Shakuhachi as a practice of Chan/Zen meditation in Vancouver in 2015. He has also been playing Guqin (an ancient Chinese instrument) since 2009.
