Mizuno Rodō (given name Mizuno Einosuke) was born in Kanda in 1880. From the age of 15 he studied shakuhachi with Matsumoto Keigetsu in Tokyo, then under Miura Kindō, who gave him his master teaching license and permission to start his own school of shakuhachi. Mizuno Rodō excelled at both performing the Kinko-ryū repertoire and teaching it. His school, the Dōfukai, trained many excellent students and published its own Kinko sheet music.
