Hasegawa Aiko was born into a musical family, and began lessons with her mother and later studied with Matsuyama Satō, Makise Yuriko and Ando Masateru. In 1987 she was a fellow-graduate of Satō Kikuko at Tokyo Geidai (Art) University. In 1988 she gave the opening lecture on koto at the Yamato Shimin Open University. Since 1988 she has had engagements in Britain, Europe, the United States and Central America. In 1990 she won the second prize in the Miyagi-kai competition. She is a member of the Miyagi-kai, Mori-no-kai, the Kagayaki Group and the Temari Group. She lectures for the Sakura no koto no kai and the Hitachi Industrial Japanese Music Club.
