Nankoku Tosa wo Ashitani

南国土佐を後にして

[Also Known As]Leaving Nankoku Tosa Behind

History:

Nankoku Tosa wo Ashitani is a popular song written and composed by Eisaku Takemasa.
The original song is said to have been spontaneously born and sung in the 236th Army Asakura Infantry Regiment (Whale Unit), which was dispatched to the central part of the Chinese mainland (many members of this unit were from Kochi Prefecture ). In the second half, they sang the Tosa folk song Yosakoi Bushi.

After the war, it was brought to Kochi Prefecture by veterans and others, and became established as the hometown song. It became known nationwide with the big hit version by Peggy Hayama in 1958.
