Traditional Music of Japan, The - 03  (Listen)

Satsuma sa is another example of a very short song of Kouta accompanied by a Shamisen tuned in Niagari.
      The text relates:
      To Satsuma-
      To Satsuma
I scull my boat as fast as I can
      But the tide
      Why, it's dead low
And my oar does me no good.
(Translation by Dr. Richard N. McKinnon, University of Washington, Seattle, U. S. A.)
