Nabari in obsolete Japanese means "to hide away." It is composed of three parts, lent-allegro-lent, and uses 'hidden mode' (d-es-fis-g-a-b-c).
1. Lento: gloomy theme
2. Allegro: development
3. Lento molto: dim return
Written from summer through fall in 1992, commissioned by Teiko Kikuchi, a 17-stringed koto player, this work should be called a vignette pre-echoing Symphony No. 3. The original was written for a 17stringed koto solo, but in this CD it is played three higher with the 20-stringed koto.
