Kozu Yoshiyuki, a well known composer and artistic director of ROKKASEN, was born in Tokyo in 1932. A descendent of Senzaburo Kozu, who introduced Western music to Japan in the Meiji period (1868-1912), Mr. Kozu composes contemporary music, film scores and popular music in Japan. His interests extend to research on the relationship between human beings and sound, as well as the character of musical instruments. He has composed “ecological music,” developed from the sound waves of plants, in cooperation with Yoshiyuki Miwa, a professor in the Department of Science and Engineering at Waseda University. Mr. Kozu serves on the board of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and is a researcher and lecturer at Waseda University. In the ASEAN-Japan Exchange Year 2003, Mr. Kozu is playing a role as vice-chairperson of the organizing committee of the exchange year
