He intended to be Koto player after losing of his eyesight in eight years.
Studied under Kenkou Nakajima II and composed first piece "Mizunohentai" in age of fourteen. After that he frequently released new pieces on the recital and made the movement for "New Japanese Music", gave so much influence to the development of Japanese Music.
He played on the first day of opening of NHK radio in 1925, and the year of established JVC, became the artist attached to it.
He composed the eternal masterpiece "Haruno Umi" in 1929,became an instructor of Tokyo Music School (the present name is Tokyo University of Fine Arts) and after that a professor of it.
He gained public attention for the ensemble of "Haru no Umi" with Rene Chemet and the record of it became "Super Hits" not only Japan but also overseas. This strongly made the name of Michio Miyagi popular in the world coupled with the success of concert tour in Europe. He became a member of Japan Art Academy in 1948, established Miyagi Association in 1951. On June 25, 1956, he closed his life in age of sixty-two by falling out the train on the way to the concert tour in Kansai.
