Andrea Hofer was born in 1970. While studying flute at the Musikhochschule Basel (1990-1995, teaching diploma) she met the shakuhachi and took lessons with Andreas Fuyu Gutzwiller at the Studio for non-European music of the Music Academy in Basel in 1991. In 2002 she was awarded the masters name Fuyuan,by Kawase Junsuke III head of the Kinko Ryu, in Tokyo. Andrea Hofer teaches the Repertory of the Kinko school (Honkyoku and Sankyoku).
