Born February 26, 1970 in Trenton, New Jersey. Began Shakuhachi study in 1994, teachers include Tomie Hahn, Steven Rowland, David Wheeler, and currrently Kawase Junsuke III, Iemoto of Kinko Ryuu Chikuyusha. Received Shihan Certification August 6, 2011, along with the name Shōyū 笙友. Currently studying shakuhachi making with Perry Yung. In addition to shakuhachi, teaches Taijiquan and pursues studies in Chado, Haiku and Chinese Calligraphy.
