Born January 27, 1925 in Hamamatsu City, Totsuka Shōho (Totsuka Yūji) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Yokoyama Ranpo and started teaching in 1955. He was a member of the Ranpo-sha, Shizuoka Sankyoku Federation, Hamamatsu Sankyoku Kyō-kai, and Shakuhachi Honkyoku Tōkaidō Federation.
