Komei Takemura is a performer of Kinko School shakuhachi honkyoku and gaikyoku traditions under Goro Yamaguchi. A graduate of the prestigious Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, Takemura has performed in a wide variety of contexts both in Japan and abroad. He toured Africa in 1993 under the auspices of the Japanese Foreign Ministry and the Japan Foundation, produced solo recitals in 1987 and 1991, and has appeared on video and CD recordings as well as numerous radio broadcasts. Currently he is head of his own music school along with his wife.
