Shigeo Tachibana graduated with a master degree of the Tozan style of modern shakuhachi music, studying under Narita Rokuzan. He continued his studies of the shakuhachi in the classical Kinko style with master Mitsuhashi Kifu. He has won numerous competitions, including NHK (Japan Broadcasting Network) contests. He received second prize at the Zenkoku Hougaku (all Japan Traditional Music) competition.
