Okada Michiaki began playing Shakuhachi in the traditional music club at RitsumeikanUniversity. He first began studying the Kinko style and Watazumido Honkyoku under Shimada Dosetsu,and then from 1988 under Yokoyama Katsuya. He graduated from the 35th term of the NHK Hogaku Ginosha Ikuseikai - Traditional Music Conservatory. He is a member of the shakuhachi trio “Fudo”, and an instructor for the International Shakuhachi Kenshukan. He mainly performs and teaches in the Kyoto area. He has had 6 annual recitals and various international concerts. He recently won the Kyoto City Art/Culture Association Award in 2007.
