Sacramental Christian Lullaby - was composed in memory of the early Japanese Christians who were persecuted by the military government before and during the Edo period (1600-1868).

Lamenting the Passing of Spring - was composed in the same tuning as the famous piece, 'Spring Sea', to evoke a feeling of deja vue. The piece expresses the joy of experiencing the season of awakening as well as the sadness of knowing that it is soon over.

The Dream of the Dayflower - was originally composed for piano and shakuhachi. The composer was one of Mr. Yokoyama's teachers. The word tsukikusa translates literally as 'Moon Grass'.

Spring Sea - is one of the most frequently performeg pieces in the koto and shakuhachi repertoire. Miyagi was inspired to compose this piece by the beautiful Seto Inland Sea.

Tuning in D - is the translation of ichikotsu; the name of a kind of mode or scale in traditional Japanese music.

Poeme I - is based on the traditional koto piece 'Chidori' (The Plover), sounding the opening four-note motive of the older work. The two instrumental parts represent male and female aspects, which initially contrast and then unite.

Picture Dreams - was inspired by the sound of the late autumn wind at the mountain temple, Katsuoji; the wind blowing through the fields and mountains at dusk.
